Getting the Support you need
Having a heart attack can affect the whole family. Families are able to attend the Unit and see how their relatives are recovering and to talk to others who have gone through similar problems. Carers can also be assessed and given an exercise programme to support patients whilst they are on their own programme.
On a regular basis at the Unit, community dietitians give talks to patients and their partners who wish to take advice on healthy eating, medication, relaxation, exercise and general advice.
There is also a Heart Care Family Support Group, a patient-led group, offering support and encouragement to anyone who has suffered heart problems or who is waiting for heart surgery. The Group meets 6 timer per year at Heart Care, Portland Street in the afternoons. The meetings are run during the months of March, April, May, September, October and November and have regular guest speakers, which in the past have included; Dr. Ali Hamaad, Consultant Cardiologist from Walsall Manor, Dr. Angela Haire retired GP and Trustee of Heart Care, Dr. Bharat Patel, pharmaceutical and medication officer, amongst many more. Members of the public are welcome to join, free of charge.
Please see the events calendar for the date of the next meeting.
