The Doctor

The Doctor works Part Time at the unit in conjunction with Walsall Manor Hospital and has considerable cardiology experience.

His duties include:

  • Screening patients in conjunction with the nursing staff to ascertain their suitability to exercise on the course.
  • Oversee the monitoring of patients whilst exercising, looking for signs of potential medical problems
  • Give one-to-one information, reassurance and answers any questions patient have in regard to their diagnosis or medication
  • Liaise with all other members of the clinical team
  • Oversee assessment of patients on completion of the programmes
  • Deal with any clinical problems or emergencies

The Nurses

The nurses:

  • Welcome patients
  • Interview patients
  • Advise and educate the patients
  • Monitor, plan, implement, assess and evaluate patient care.

The Exercise Physiologists

The Exercise Physiologist team conduct comprehensive exercise assessments on commencement and completion of the programmes for all patients and deliver feedback regarding their progress.  Their duties include:

  • Planning, delivering and reviewing an individual exercise programme for all patients based on their assessments, including home/web exercise programmes
  • Planning and extend programmes for patients transferring to the after careprogramme
  • Assessing the capability to perform exercise and then plan an appropriate exercise programme for relatives/carers or friends of patients
  • Providing education on exercise
  • Liaise with all other members of the clinical team

The Health Care Assistants

Welcome patients and assist in:

  • Interviewing the patients
  • Exercise assessments using heart monitors
  • Giving advice and education
  • Performing ECGs, cholesterol and blood glucose testing
  • Liaise and interpret information from patients to clinical staff.

The Weight Management Team

The Team undertake a comprehensive health assessment on commencement and completion of the programme for all patients and formulate an individual care plan for the patient, including diet modification and increasing activity levels.

Their duties include:

  • Identifying current lifestyle behaviours, barriers and opportunities for change and appropriate interventions
  • Recording and monitoring Body mass index (BMI) and girth measurements
  • Recording and monitoring clinical indicators
  • Assessing each patient’s capabilities to participate in an exercise programme and help to increase physical activity levels
  • Planning and modifying exercise programmes, including home/web exercise
  • Liaise with all other members of the clinical team

The Counsellor

Heart Care has a qualified counsellor among its staff who offers one to one counselling sessions and confidential support to patients.

The counsellor also gives talks on stress management and relaxation.

The Administrative team

The administrative team consists of the Charity Manager, the Finance Manager, the Personal Assistant, Client Services Administrator and the Fundraiser. Each of their roles are multifaceted and vary from day to day.
